Farmers told to approach TNAU on bio-gas production
Ooty: The farmers in the Nilgiris who are interested in bio-gas production from vegetable wastes are asked approach the department of bio-energy at the Tamil Nadu Agriculture University in Coimbatore.
It was stated during the farmers grievance redressal day meet held here, which was chaired by Ms J. Innocent Divya, the Collector of Nilgiris.
The horticulture department officials informed the farmers that the cost of establishing a bio-gas unit will be around Rs 2.50 lakh. TNAU will help the interested farmers to set up such a facility.
Ms Divya said that to get compensation for the crop loss and related damages due to recent rains and floods or looking for availing sprinkler irrigation facilities, the farmers can petition to the office of the concerned assistant director of horticulture.
The horticulture officials after inspecting the flood affected farm lands and or assessing the need for sprinkler irrigation, will take steps to provide compensation or the necessary apparatus, she pointed.
The farmers are asked to inform the forest officials about the straying of wild animals into the farm fields in their respective areas so as to help the foresters take necessary steps to chase off the stray animals into the woods.
