Kozhikode: Beard Society goes to masses
Kozhikode: Kerala Beard Society exists not just for the welfare its members but also the society. As a part of its “No Shave November” campaign, the group of bearded men met at Town Hall on Thursday.
Anas Abdulla, the founder, welcomed the gathering, followed by motivational class by D. Sathish, food distribution to the homeless, cultural fest, donation of water purifying set to Beach Hospital and cancer awareness class by town CI Umesh A.
Formed in 2017 with just ten members, it has now grown into a group of 500, engaging in social activities such as blood donation.
Its first program was honouring students excelled in higher studies. It actively protested when Vinayakan, the Dalit boy of Thrissur arrested for growing long hair branding him as a drug addict, who later committed suicide. Then they helped his family financially.
It was an active –participator in the flood relief activities recently. The society is also building a high-tech school library for GFLP School Veliancode.
People once branded them as a group of men addicted to drugs and alcohol. They are now proving to be true heroes concerned about the welfare of their fellow beings and propagating messages against substance abuse.
