Hyderabad: Pressure is mounting on the police to take disciplinary action against Karimnagar ACP P. Ashok, who had told an anti-CAA protester to go to the neighbouring country. The cop allegedly stated that Islam has excessive fanaticism and terrorism. The video pertaining to the counselling M.A. Mujeeb during counselling, when the exchange occurred, went viral on social media.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has already sought a report from the DGP on the complaint of harassment, but no action has been taken so far.
A case was registered against Mr Mujeeb against whom a case was registered for participating in a protest against the CAA on December 22. He received a call from a cop, who identified himself as an inspector with Special Branch, who allegedly used filthy language.
The following day, Mr Mujeeb was asked to present himself before Karimnagar commissioner of police V. B. Kamlasan Reddy. He complained about the telephonic conversation with the cop, but no action was taken. Later, he was asked to appear before Karimnagar I Town police for counselling.
During the counselling, Mr Ashok joined and started a conversation with the complainant.
Mr Ashok allegedly said anti-CAA protestors should go to the neighbouring country. He allegedly used derogatory words against Mahatma Gandhi. He said that except Islam no other religion has fanaticism.
Secretary of Mehr Organisation Affan Quadri asked the DGP to initiate a departmental inquiry against the official by placing him under suspension.
Mr Quadri urged Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to open de-radicalisation camps for some elite police officers. Social activist Mohammed Farooq maintained that police personnel should always be neutral and devoid of any ideological bias.
