Colonies on clean drive in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: In a first of its kind move, 50 colonies from RK Puram, Neerdmet and Malkajgiri have begun a mission to clean up their localities.
Residents of these 50 colonies have framed their own guidelines. A colony that would have zero mosquito breeding, no open nalas, litter-free roads, no hoardings and more greenery will be tagged as a Swachh colony every month.
Over 250 residents of Bharani Colony, Balaji-nagar colony and Brundavan colony began work to spruce up their localities. They cleaned up the stretch below the Ramakrishnapuram flyover.
Ms Yamuna Pathak, resident of Defence Colony, Kapra, said, “Every colony that has joined us will be mandate, a list of work to be done, on overflowing drains, stray dogs or even damaged internal roads. Residents have to pursue the corporation and get the work done.
One colony will be selected for the ‘ideal colony award’ every month. The work will be assessed by a five-member committee consisting of an environmentalist and resident association members.
Dr Srinivas Rao of Kapra said pollution was a major aspect that will be checked. The 315 colonies in Malkajgiri constituency which will be taken up phase wise.
