Hyderabad: 99 per cent of sowing completed

With two days of rains, the position in several mandals has improved and farmers are active in agricultural operations.

The state government on Tuesday said that agricultural operations that have been dull since the beginning of the Kharif season in June, have picked up with the recent rains.

With the two days of rain in the state, 99 per cent of sowing operations of rain-fed crops have been completed.

C. Parthasarathi, principal secretary, participating in a video conference held by chief secretary S.K. Joshi with district collectors on various administrative matters, claimed that with the two days of rain in the state, 99 per cent of sowing operations of rain-fed crops have been completed.

He said paddy sowing would increase in the coming days with the increase in inflows into reservoirs.

The principal secretary asked agriculture extension officers to collect exact data of the extent of sowing so that the Minimum Support Price could be accurately fixed and it would be helpful when it came to providing relief in the event of natural calamities.

Mr Joshi told collectors to intensify the planting of saplings under Haritha Haram in view of the good rains for the past two days.
