JNTU Anantapur and Kakinada witness the migration of rank holders to IIT and NITs every year.

Anantapur: Universities in the state are facing shortage of expert professors with at least 180 posts of various departments lying vacant at the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Anantapur, alone.

JNTU Anantapur and Kakinada, and IIIT institutions, located at Nuzvid, Idupulapaya and Ongole, have been facing faculty shortage ever since they started. Old universities like Andhra University, Sri Venkateswara University and Sri Krishnadevaraya University are in a similar situation.

JNTU Anantapur and Kakinada witness the migration of rank holders to IIT and NITs every year.

“Top rankers from AP will join both varsities, but they migrate soon after getting seat in national-level institutions,” a senior professor from Anantapur JNTU observed.

An average of 100 seats will be offered to students in second counselling to fill vacancies.

M. Prasanth, who is studying third year in NIT in Uttarakhand, got seat at JNTU-A but migrated soon after he got seat in NIT. He opined that the state government should concentrate on improving quality in faculty and attractive campus selection to compete with prestigious IITs and NITs.

The JNTU-A authorities plan to fill the vacancies but are unable to get clearance for it. Further, the authorities have also not conduced EC meeting to get approval for filling vacancies so far. A meeting is scheduled for September 8 to pass resolution about filling vacancies of teaching faculties, the sources said.

Further, the state government had introduced successive IIIT concept in both Telugu-speaking states during the Congress regime. But, the institutions were still facing crunch of faculty. Normally, postgraduate holders from prestigious IITs would be invited to serve as faculty at IIITs, but many of them were not showing interest because the institutes were located in interior parts. Though, Nizvid is located closer to urban parts, Idupulapaya and Ongole have poor access.
