16 temporary health centres in Kozhikode
Kozhikode: As many as 16 temporary health centres will start functioning in the district to check post-flood diseases. They will be set up in the areas which were inundated where there is shortage of sufficient health institutions, said district medical officer Dr V. Jayashree.
“It will start within two days with the service of a doctor, nurse and a junior health inspector at each centre. The timing is between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m,” said the DMO. The temporary centres are at Kakkodi, Cheruvannur, Beypore, Chakkittapara, Chulur, Kakkoor, Kunduthod, Kunnamangalam, Muzhikal, Peruvayal, Puthuppadi, Thannerpanthal, Vanimel, Velam,
Maruthonkara and Thiruvambadi.
The district is facing the threat of leptospirosis and 35 positive cases have been reported since August 8. Three of them have died and there are 64 more suspected cases. The DMO cautioned relief workers to take doxycycline antibiotic before doing their work. “Volunteers who work in flood-affected areas should take medicine on the previous day. The people and the volunteers are keeping the medicine and not consuming it which will invite the disease,” she cautioned.
The DMO also warned about the water-borne diseases in the flood-affected areas. National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) district programme manager Dr A. Naveen was also present at the press conference.
