Hyderabad: Caso attracts praises from residents
Hyderabad: The number of cordon and search operations (Caso) witnessed a major jump as compared to last year and the numbers of cases has doubled. The Caso irked residents when they started in 2015 but has now begun to draw praise.
“Strategies like initiation of PD Act against notorious offenders, constant surveillance through criminal tracking system, Caso, community CCTV, integrated traffic management system and able leadership of each wing have paid great dividends’ Hyderabad police commissioner Anjani Kumar said. This year, the police conducted 137 Caso, booked 42 cases and arrested 94 persons. The Caso usually has about 200 police personnel divided into search, cut-off and arresting teams. The target area is cordoning off and the police steps in.
“We check the background of the residents with the TSCOP app. If anyone has a criminal background we call them for questioning to the police station,” said an official from the South Zone.
The biggest child rescue operation in the city, wherein around 220 children were rescued from a bangle manufacturing unit in Bhavaninagar in 2015, took place after a Caso.
Then DCP South Zone, V. Satyanarayana said in June this year, the eighth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge court convicted two persons involved in the racket, Mohammed Imtiyaz and Mohammed Munna from Gaya, Bihar, for rigorous imprisonment of 14 years.
