DS Chauhan assumes charge as new Rachakonda police commissioner

HYDERABAD: A grand welcome was accorded Devendra Singh Chauhan, who took charge as Rachakonda police chief at about 11.30 am here on Saturday. Mahesh Bhagwat, who served as the Rachakonda police commissioner, the country's largest commissionerate, for over six years was felicitated and given a warm send-off by senior officials and staff.

“I will take guidelines from Bhagwat and we all will have a meeting,” Chauhan said, while shaking hands with senior officers.

Chauhan and Bhagwat discussed the crime status. Chauhan did not get to interact with the media as he was busy meeting officials from all three divisions — Special Branch (SB), Special Operation Team (SOT), Central Crime Station (CCS) — and those from law and order, traffic and other departments.

“I thank you all for your cooperation, timely alerts and partnership. I extend my best wishes to Chauahan,” Bhagwat said.

Some officers praised his services. “I have worked under many officers but Bhagwat was one of the best. I have seen him working till late nights to resolve crime related issues in Rachakonda and he proved it,” a senior police officer said.

“Bhagwat always appreciated good work and rewarded many for their performances. His memory is sharp. He addresses home guards by their name, which is an amazing trait,” said another police officer.
