Hyderabad: Traffic advisory for New Year revellers

Hyderabad: In view of the New Year celebrations on December 31, Cyberabad traffic police have issued certain restrictions with regard to closure of roads and flyovers in some areas.

The Nehru ORR will be closed for light motor vehicles, except those proceeding to RGIA, from Sunday 10 pm to Monday 5 am. PVNR Express Way will
be closed for all vehicles except the RGIA-bound vehicles.

The following flyovers will be totally closed for all vehicular and pedestrians from Sunday 11 pm to Monday 5 am: Shilpa layout, Gachibowli, Bio-diversity, Shaikpet, Mindspace, Road No. 45, Cyber tower, Forum Mall-JNTU, Kaithalapur, Babu Jagjivan Ram (Balanagar) and AMB (Kondapur) and Durgam Cheruvu cable bridge.

Avinash Mohanty, Cyberabad police commissioner, said here in a press release on Saturday that drivers of cabs, taxis and auto rickshaws, should be in proper uniform and carry all relevant documents. They have been cautioned against refusing any rides as that would be a violation of Section 178 of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Drivers refusing rides will be penalised Rs 500. Commuters can complain against errant drivers on 9490617346 with details of the vehicle’s registration number, time and place.

Establishments: Bars, pubs and clubs that allow their customers to drive under the influence of alcohol after consuming liquor in their premises will be dealt with strictly and the management would be prosecuted for abetting the crime.

General public: Special cameras have been installed to detect violations like over speeding, taking the wrong route, signal jumping, rash driving, riding without helmet and triple riding. All such violators will be penalised under law.

Extensive checks for drunk driving will be conducted across all roads in Cyberabad limits starting from 8 pm on Sunday.

Underage drivers and those without a driving license will be prosecuted. Vehicles with high-decibel sounds and music systems will be detained and sent to RTO for further action. It is likewise for vehicles without number plates.

Consequences of drunk driving: A penalty of Rs 10, 000 and or imprisonment of up to six months for first offences and a penalty of Rs 15,000 and or
imprisonment of up to two years for a second or repeat offences.

  • Driving licenses will be seized and RTOs will be directed to suspend the licenses.
  • Persons causing road accidents leading to death, under the influence of alcohol, will be booked U/s 304 part-II of IPC and jailed.
