Odisha Cabinet retains increase in upper age limit for OCS examinations

CM Naveen Patnaik-led cabinet approves key changes in recruitment rules.

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cabinet headed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday cleared as many as 13 proposals, including earlier decision that allowed increase of the upper age limit for appearing state civil services to 38 from 32

“Earlier, the state government had increased the upper age limit for sitting civil state services examinations to 38 from 32 till 2023. Today, the Cabinet approved the proposal to continue the increased upper age limit in 2024. The has been done to provide ample opportunity to participate in recruitment examinations,” said state chief secretary Pradeep Kumar Jena.

Earlier, the state government had increased the upper age limit from 32 to 38 for the advertisements made during 2021, 2022 and 2023 for entry into state government services.

The Odisha government has framed new recruitment rules for different cadres. Seven Combined Recruitment Examination Rules have been notified wherein new syllabus and pattern of exams have been incorporated.

In the Odisha Civil Services (OCS) recruitment exams, the number of attempts has also been increased.

The other proposals which got the State Cabinet nod include:

Odisha Lower Excise Service (Method of Recruitment and Conditions of Service of Assistant Sub-inspector of Excise) Rules, 2023.

Restructuring of Treasury District Ministerial Cadre and Framing of the Odisha Treasury Ministerial Service (Method of Recruitment and Condition of Service) Rules, 2023 and Odisha Sub-Ordinate Finance (Treasury Branch) Rules, 2023.

Proposal for allotment of land to Public Health Foundation of India for establishment of a permanent campus of Indian Institute of Public Health at Bhubaneswar approved.

Amendment of Odisha Fire Service (Methods of Recruitment and Conditions of Service of Group C Officers) Rules 2021.

The chief secretary informed that the Cabinet also approved procurement of 200 new E-buses which will be added to the fleet of MO Bus to strengthen urban mobility in the Capital Region of Bhubaneswar.

Proposal for implementation of LED Public street lighting project in 110 Urban Local Bodies in Odisha was approved at an estimated bidding cost of Rs 312.18 crore.

Proposal for amendment of Odisha Information & Public Relations Technical and Non Technical Service (Method of Recruitment and conditions of service) Amendment Rules, 2023 was approved.
