6 missing WB fishermen rescued in sea, Joint search by Coast Guard, fisheries dept

Kolkata: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) in a coordinated operation with the West Bengal fisheries department has rescued six fishermen who went missing after their boat capsized in the sea.


At around 10 pm on July 2, the ICG learnt from the assistant director fisheries (marine) at Contai in East Midnapore that IFB Maa Krishna Sarathi (Reg No. IND-WB-CN-MO-3786) went missing after it started sailing from Soula Matsya Kuti in the district.


A preliminary search by the ICG Remote Operating Station was carried out to locate the missing fishing boat. Early on Wednesday, a coast guard ship (ICGS-C-158) and a hovercraft (H-193) were deployed to augment the search.


At around 8.30 am the chairman, fish landing center at Soula informed that the boat was found capsized at the sea, the ICG said in a statement. The coast guard ship C-158 reached the area at 10.15 am amid a rough weather and spotted the sunken fishing boat without its crew.


At around 1.30 pm, the chairman, fish landing center at Soula informed that the missing six fishermen were rescued by IFB Maa Kali and were taken to Contai Sub Division Hospital.
