Hyderabad: When Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has prioritised the resolution of pending issues between the Telugu states, leaders from AP have started building up pressure on the Centre to continue Hyderabad as the joint capital.
Former IPS officer and founder of the newly-floated Bharat National Party V.V. Lakshminarayana on Sunday stated that the Centre must intervene and extend the clause that keeps Hyderabad as the joint capital of the Telugu states until the AP government finalises its capital.
He also urged other parties in AP to convince President Draupadi Murmu to do likewise.
AP Congress vice-president Kolanukonda Shivaji had recently demanded that Hyderabad be allowed as the joint capital till 2034.
It may be noted that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has directed officials to take over all buildings controlled by the AP government in Telangana, and prepare a comprehensive report on the pending distribution of assets between the two states since Hyderabad ceases to be the joint capital on coming June 2.
He had set a clear agenda to his officials to clear the matters such as apportioning of public assets worth up to Rs 1.4 lakh crore, that are still pending to be resolved. The officials were asked to include details of all matters over which the two states have reached consensus.
The Telangana officials have been focussing on the division of some pending organisations and corporations mentioned in Schedules 9 and 10 of AP Reorganisation Act, which were not cleared due to lack of consensus between the two states. The dues of the power companies remain uncleared.
Revanth Reddy also directed the officials to focus on issues like transfers of employees that can be resolved amicably. He told them to protect the interests of Telangana in all pending matters.
