Five Medical Students Arrested for Ragging in Vijayapura
Vijayapura and Tikota Tahsildars, along with the Additional Superintendent of Police, visited the victim to assess his condition

Vijaypura: A second-year MBBS student from Jammu and Kashmir studying at Al-Ameen Medical College in Vijayapura district was allegedly subjected to ragging and assault by five senior students, leading to their arrest.
The incident took place on the evening of February 18. According to the complaint, the accused—Mohammed Zainul (23) from Vijayapura, Sameer Tadapatri (24) from Ballari district, Shaik Sawood (23) from Mudagal in Raichur district, Mansoor Bhasha (24) from Shiraguppa in Ballari district, and Muzzaffer alias Mujeeb Jamadar (23) from Vijayapura district—forced the victim, Hamim, to leave the playground, coerced him into dancing and saluting against his will, and subjected him to verbal abuse. Later, they allegedly entered his hostel room and physically assaulted him.
Based on the victim’s complaint, a case was registered at Vijayapura Rural Police Station under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including 115(2), 329(4), 352, 351(2), 189(2), 191(2), and 190, along with Section 116 of the Karnataka Education Act, 1983.
All five accused have been arrested, and an investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, following reports of the incident, district authorities have taken action as per the directions of the Deputy Commissioner. The Vijayapura and Tikota Tahsildars, along with the Additional Superintendent of Police, visited the victim to assess his condition. Officials confirmed that the student had not sustained any injuries and was physically stable.
The details of the incident have been conveyed to Mohammad Mohsin, Principal Secretary of the Medical Education Department. He has directed officials to provide necessary support to the victim and ensure strict legal action against the accused students. The Deputy Commissioner’s office has confirmed that legal proceedings are in progress.
