Food Checks Extended to Hotels in Telangana Districts
Hyderabad: With food safety inspections revealing significant safety violations by major thriving restaurants in Hyderabad, the task force of food safety department extended its inspections to the districts on Sunday.
The commissioner for food safety stated on X (Twitter) the task force had inspected food outlets in Rangareddy and Khammam. At Taaza All Day Breakfast at Medchal, the inspectors discarded food colours, lemons and vegetables of bad quality, dalchini not in proper condition, unlabelled tea powder and infested foxtail millet. Food handlers' medical records were unavailable and a pest control programme was also not initiated.
At Train Theme Restaurant, Kompally, besides finding infested cashew, bad vegetables, the team also observed blockage of water in the sink. They collected statutory samples which were then sent to the lab. At Prism Restaurant and Bar, Vattinagulapally, rat faeces was found in the store room. Stagnant water and foul smell was found in the kitchen, besides expired and substandard products.
In Khammam, the special team conducted inspections at Rest Inn, where synthetic food colours were found being used in food preparation. Colour coated and spoiled tandoori, marinated, fried chicken and chicken kebab were discarded.
The inspectors also seized improperly labelled coconut powder (6.5kg), noodles (30.5kg) and unlabelled turmeric powder (60kg). Food handlers were without haircaps, gloves and aprons and their medical fitness certificates were also not available. The food outlet did not have pest control records and water analysis report as well.
Similar violations were found at High Spirit Restaurant, Bypass Road, and Haveli West Side, NTR Bypass Road.
