Near-replay of Pune incident, 14-yr-old driver hits 20 bikes in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: In a chilling near-replay of the Pune incident, where a drunk teen from an influential family moved down a couple, a 14-year old boy driving a car lost control of the vehicle near the Golden Temple in Manikonda on Monday, and hit 20 parked bikes and injured two persons standing by the roadside.

Local residents quickly reacted, chased the car and caught the minor driver and handed him over to police.

“We were shocked by what happened. The car rammed 20 parked vehicles, shaking up everyone. What if someone had been on the bikes? This could have been another Pune tragic accident. The boy is just 14, and it’s surprising that his parents were not aware,” said a witness, Sai Kumar Goud.

“We ran behind the car and forcefully took him into custody and handed him over to police. When we found out this was not the first time he had taken the car, we were even more shocked,” Goud said. “The parents should be punished for not teaching him ethics. Thankfully, no one died in the incident.”

The boy was not drunk and was travelling alone at the time of the incident, police said. He had taken the car keys on Monday evening and went out. While driving at high speed, he lost control over the vehicle and crashed into the parked vehicles, said Narsingi inspector Guduru Hari Krishna Reddy.

"A case have been registered against the minor under Sections 337 and 279IPC for rash and negligent driving endangering life and his parents have also been booked,” the inspector said.
