Karnataka: 25 Koraga Tribals Reconvert to Hinduism

Mangaluru: In a religious ceremony, 25 individuals from seven Koraga (tribe) families in Panja village, Dakshina Kannada, reconverted to Hinduism from Christianity after attending religious rituals on Saturday.

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad Dharma Prasara Vibhag spearheaded the ceremony at the Panja Temple. The event featured a Gana Yaga, attended by the 25 individuals—15 men and 10 women—alongside local Hindu organization leaders.

The Dharma Prasara Vibhag initiated contact with these families and, following discussions, the families expressed their willingness to return to Hinduism.

"An elderly woman from the family mentioned that they have been living here for about 50 years and had converted to Christianity many years ago. They were following Christian rituals at home. Now they have returned to our religion," Dharma Prasara Dakshina Prant Pramukh Sunil KR told Deccan Chronicle.

Sunil KR further noted, "There are many families in the region who were lured to other religions due to vulnerabilities."

Hindu leaders Sooryanarayan, Sunil KR, Punith, Naveen Neriya, Moolachandra, and Pramod Rai, and others were present.

The reconverted families were provided with clothes, grocery items, photos of various Hindu deities, and other household essentials.

The Koraga are a tribal community found mainly in the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi of Karnataka.
