Hyderabad to get India’s largest AI City along ORR

Land parcels identified for AI City, Skill University along ORR, projects to be grounded in June

Hyderabad: Hyderabad will host India's first and biggest ‘Artificial Intelligence City’ (AI City) soon.

Officials of Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) identified 200 acres land parcels along Outer Ring Road in Maheshwaram, Serilingampally, Chevella and Ibrahimpatnam mandals for setting up AI City. Hyderabad will also get the state's first Skill University in 100 acres, for which land parcels were identified in the same locations and submitted to the state government for the final approval.

The state government is expected to finalise and allot land parcels for these projects soon after the election code ends in June. The land allotments are likely to be approved in the next cabinet meeting in June.

Official sources said Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy will lay the foundation for AI City and Skill University ahead of "Global AI Summit" being held in the city in July. They said AI City will house and promote the AI ecosystem in the country.

Sources said that the Uttar Pradesh government had announced setting up of India's first AI City in Lucknow in December 2023 but the project is yet to be grounded.

They said UP’s AI City is coming up only on 40 acres and is expected to be complete by 2030 but Hyderabad AI City will come up in 200 acres, which is five times more than Lucknow's AI City and will be completed by 2028 making it the first AI City of India. IT and industries minister D Sridhar Babu is confident that Hyderabad will emerge as "AI capital of India" with the establishment of AI City.

Addressing a meeting organised by Telangana Facility Manager Council (TFMC) on Friday last, IT and industries minister D Sridhar Babu said, "By setting up a dedicated AI City, we want to make Hyderabad as the ‘AI capital of India’. It is our earnest desire to see Hyderabad as an AI City. We want to see Hyderabad as the most happening city for AI activity. We would like to see the city as a house for AI research."

Officials of higher education, labour, IT, technical departments are all set to tour various states to study the functioning of skill universities.

Revanth Reddy directed officials to conduct a study on the functioning of skill universities in Gujarat, Haryana, Rajasthan, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh and replicate best practices from these states for setting up a skill university in Telangana.
