LS Poll Debacle Fallout: Congress in MP Set for Complete Revamp: PCC Chief

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh unit of Congress is set to be ‘revamped completely’ in the wake of the party's rout in the state in the outgoing Lok Sabha elections.

This was indicated by state Congress chief Jitu Patwari on Saturday.

“The state unit of the party will be completely restructured within a month”, Mr Patwari who owned moral responsibility for the washout of the party in the LS polls in Madhya Pradesh said.

Mr Patwari said that there would be better coordination between the grass root level cadres and leaders of the party as well as among the leaders.

Replying to a query as to if he would tender his resignation from his post following the disastrous performance of the party in the LS polls in the state, Mr Patwari sought to parry the question, saying that ‘The party high command will take a call on the matter’.

Mr Patwari’s statement comes in the wake of former Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Ajay Singh raising the demand for reviewing his performance as PCC chief.

Mr Singh has virtually demanded Mr Patwari’s resignation from his post recalling that he was also asked to step down from the post of PCC chief in Madhya Pradesh when Congress lost Assembly elections in the state in 2013.

The ex-CLP leader has also taken a dig at Mr Patwari for not being able to arrest the mass desertion of leaders and cadres of the party in the run up to the 2024 general elections.

In another development, Congress veteran and former chief minister Kamal Nath met party supremo Sonia Gandhi in Delhi on Friday to ‘discuss political situation in Madhya Pradesh as well as in the country’.

Mr Nath said that the party would review its debacle in the LS polls in Madhya Pradesh.

BJP swept the LS polls in Madhya Pradesh by winning all the 29 seats.

Congress which fielded candidates in 27 out of 29 seats in the polls in the state has drawn a blank.
