Mission Shakti to be renamed as ‘Subhadra Shakti’
Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida hinted at the potential rebranding during a recent interaction, sparking widespread speculation

Bhubaneswar: In a significant development for women’s empowerment in Odisha, the state government is considering renaming its flagship Mission Shakti initiative as ‘Subhadra Shakti.’
Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida hinted at the potential rebranding during a recent interaction, sparking widespread speculation. The anticipated change aligns with the launch of the ‘Subhadra Shakti Mela,’ scheduled to commence on Saturday evening in Bhubaneswar. This grand event will bring together women from self-help groups (SHGs) across the state, showcasing their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit.
The Subhadra Shakti Mela, set to be inaugurated by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at Janata Maidan, will run until March 2. It aims to spotlight the exceptional skills and craftsmanship of SHG women, featuring over 300 stalls with diverse products ranging from traditional handicrafts, terracotta, and bamboo crafts to handwoven textiles, organic foods, spices, sweets, and millet-based delicacies.
With participation from approximately 700 women entrepreneurs, the event represents a powerful platform for economic empowerment and aims to foster financial independence among women, potentially earning them the title of ‘Lakhpati Didi,’(a term symbolising financial self-sufficiency.
Deputy CM Parida emphasised the initiative’s role in advancing women’s economic empowerment, stating, “This initiative charts a new path towards women’s financial independence, in line with our vision for a ‘Bikashita Odisha’ and a Viksit Bharat.”
She further highlighted the symbolic significance of the name change, linking it to the legendary character Subhadra, representing strength and empowerment.
“The Subhadra Shakti Mela marks a historic milestone for Odisha, celebrating women’s creativity and entrepreneurial potential. It underscores the government’s commitment to promoting women’s financial empowerment and creating new avenues for their growth and success,” the DCM observed.
