Two Jawans, Driver Injured in Maoist IED Attack in Chhattisgarh

The surrender of Maoists comes a couple of days after security forces gunned down 26 Naxals in Bijapur district.

Raipur: Maoists on Sunday tried to blow up a vehicle carrying security personnel in Bijapur district under south Bastar of Chhattisgarh, but narrowly missed the target, averting a major mishap, police said.

However, two jawans and the driver of the vehicle sustained minor injuries due to the shock wave created by the impact of the improvised explosive device (IED) explosion, police said.

According to the police, Maoists triggered the IED explosion targeting the vehicle carrying the jawans of special task force (STF), who were returning to their camp after conducting anti-Naxal operation in the area, near Gorela Nullha under Maded police station at around 5.45 pm.

However, Maoists missed the target narrowly as the IED exploded seconds after the vehicle passed the point of explosion, police said.

No serious damage was done to the vehicle nor any security personnel was grievously injured in the incident, police said.

Two jawans and the driver of the vehicle however sustained minor injuries due to the shock wave caused by the explosion, police said.

Earlier in the day, 22 Maoists including six hardcore Naxals carrying a cumulative bounty of Rs 11 lakh surrendered in Bijapur.

Of the six hardcore Maoists, one is a member of Telangana state committee and another is a member of Andhra Odisha Border (AOB) committee, police said.
