Hyderabad: The Telangana Junior Doctors Association (TJUDA) knocked on the doors of the director of medical education Dr. B. Triveni regarding release of pending stipend amounts. According to them, stipends of first year PG students have been pending since September while others', including senior resident doctors, are yet to receive their December stipend.
Last month, as part of a proposed strike, the doctors had called for a boycott of out-patient and elective duties. However, they got back to work when health minister Damodar Rajanarsimha assured them that the stipends would be disbursed immediately.
"This promise has fallen flat," said Sudha R, a junior doctor.
One of their primary demands includes regularisation of stipends wherein it would be credited on or before a specific date every month.
Meanwhile, Dr. C. Karshini from Osmania Medical College said that only a handful of PH students had received their stipends on Thursday.
"We submitted our representation to Dr. Triveni, who informed us that they were working on an early disbursement of the stipend amount," she said.
There are over 12,000 junior doctors, including house surgeons, senior residents and first, second and third-year PG students in government medical colleges across the state.
While PG doctors receive somewhere between Rs 58,300 and Rs 65,000 a month, depending on which year they're in, house surgeons receive about Rs 25,900.
