DRDO, IAF Test Indigenous Glide Weapon TARA
TARA, a modular range extension kit, is India’s first indigenous glide weapon system designed to convert unguided warheads into precision-guided weapons.

New Delhi: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Air Force (IAF) have conducted the maiden flight trial of the Tactical Advanced Range Augmentation (TARA) weapon off the Odisha coast.
TARA, a modular range extension kit, is India’s first indigenous glide weapon system designed to convert unguided warheads into precision-guided weapons.
The system has been developed by the Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Hyderabad, along with other DRDO laboratories, to enhance the accuracy and effectiveness of low-cost weapons against ground-based targets. Officials said TARA uses low-cost, state-of-the-art systems. Its development has been undertaken with Development-cum-Production Partners and other Indian industries, which have commenced production.
Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, IAF and industry partners on the successful trial, describing it as a step towards strengthening indigenous defence capabilities.
