THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Enforcement Directorate on Friday raided the “Empuraan” producer Gokulam Gopalan establishments at Kozhikode and Chennai.

According to reports the searches are being carried out by the ED at five premises across various states including Chennai under the provisions of the Foreign Exchange Management Act. The raids were conducted at Gokulam Grand Corporate Office and Gokulam Mall in Kozhikode besides the financial firm at Kodambakkam in Chennai.

The reports suggested that the ED action was related to alleged FEMA, PMLA violations and irregularities related to the Chit Fund. The ED officials will be questioning Gokulam Gopalan soon.

The ED raids come close on heels of the controversy over Mohanlal - Prithviraj film “Empuraan”. The Sangh Parivar outfits including RSS mouthpiece "Organiser" had unleashed a scathing attack against the film accusing the filmmakers of spreading anti-BJP and anti-Hindu narratives in the context of 2002 Gujarat riots.

The Sangh Parivar protest forced the creators of the film to delete 24 scenes. The changes made in the film included renaming the main villain Bajrangi to Baldev, removing the "NIA" nameplate from a vehicle, altering depictions of Hindu religious structures and cutting scenes that depicted violence against a pregnant woman.
