CCTV footage captures shocking attack as family members allege ongoing property dispute; FIR filed after delay
A disturbing case of brutality was reported from the Shinde Ki Chhawani area of Gwalior, where a 70-year-old woman, Sarla Batra, was brutally beaten and thrown to the floor by her daughter-in-law. The horrific incident, which also involved an assault on Sarla’s son, Vishal Batra, was captured on CCTV but was only registered in the police station four days later.
Sarla, who lives with her son Vishal, his wife Neelika, and their grandchildren, claimed that the assault was triggered by a family dispute over property. The victim alleged that Neelika wanted to take control of the family’s assets and had been involved in frequent arguments with her. On the day of the assault, an argument broke out over a minor household issue, and when Vishal tried to intervene, Neelika called her father and brother for support.
The situation quickly escalated when Surendra Kohli, Neelika’s father, and Nanak Kohli, her brother, arrived at the house with some goons. CCTV footage shows Surendra Kohli slapping Vishal and pushing him, while Neelika dragged Sarla by her hair, punching her on the arms. Sarla was also reportedly assaulted outside their home.
The assault on Vishal continued as he tried to defend his mother, and his young son was left frightened and distressed by the violence. Neighbors intervened, and the matter was eventually reported to the police. Sarla, now suffering from a swollen eye, expressed her fears for her family’s safety, alleging that they had received threats and were being harassed by the in-laws.
An FIR has been filed, and investigations are underway, though questions have been raised over the delay in reporting the crime. The family remains fearful for their lives and is staying away from home for their safety.
