Enforcement Directorate Summons Trinamul Congress Councillor and Realtor in Teachers' Recruitment Scam

Kolkata: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned a Trinamul Congress councillor and a realtor for questioning in the teachers' recruitment scam.

The two suspects are Partha Sarkar alias Bhaja, TMC councillor of ward no 128 in Behala under the Kolkata Municipal Corporation and Rajib Dey, a promoter.

Both are known to be close aides of heavyweight TMC MLA and former minister Partha Chatterjee, now lodged in the jail custody after his arrest by the ED in the same scam.

Mr Sarkar was the confidential assistant of Mr Chatterjee before becoming the councillor. He got the ticket from the TMC with Mr Chatterjee’s blessings to contest the KMC polls, party sources claimed.

The Central Bureau of Investigation earlier raided and searched Mr Sarkar's house and seized some documents. Last month, Mr Sarkar was served summons by the ED. He however sought three weeks’ time.

On Thursday the ED sent a fresh notice asking him to appear at its office in CGO Complex of Salt Lake. It suspects him to have collected huge amount of money from the jobs aspirants and sent it to Mr Chatterjee.

Mr Dey has been summoned by the ED to find out the amount of ill-gotten money transferred to him for realty business from Mr Chatterjee, sources said.
