Exit Polls for Lok Sabha Start a New Wave on Social Media
Hyderabad: The exit polls for the Lok Sabha elections have caused a stir on social media. On x (formerly Twitter), the hashtags #LokSabhaElections2024, #ExitPoll and #ElectionResults were trending. Some were happy with the predictions made by exit polls and thought that they showed a bright future. Others were not so pleased, and worried about what this could mean for the country.
A user on X posted “NDA set to win 350+ seats…Congratulations Narendra Modi ji”, while another one replied “According to Dr Subramanian Swamy, BJP will not get more than 220 seats. Narendra Modi will not be the next Prime Minister of India.”
Reddit was full of discussions on the exit polls. On subreddits like r/India, r/IndiaSpeaks and r/IndiaNews, users debated the authenticity and accuracy of exit polls. A user said “Most of these polls aren’t very accurate in terms of the exact number of seats each side would gain. The results always change from what happens on the actual results day.”
Facebook was buzzing with posts and comments about the elections. Many people shared pictures and videos about exit polls. “No matter what happens, the Congress party will form the government and BJP will lose”, a user commented on an exit poll post by a political analyst.
On Instagram, users shared memes about the exit polls and expressed themselves in comical ways. A meme page posted a funny meme, showing how exit poll makers distribute votes without any thought.
