The business advisory committee (BAC) in a meeting held on Sunday finalised that the budget session will be held from March 3 to March 26 in Mumbai.

Mumbai: The ‘Mahayuti’ government in Maharashtra will table its first budget on March 10 after winning a thumping victory in the Assembly election last November. The business advisory committee (BAC) in a meeting held on Sunday finalised that the budget session will be held from March 3 to March 26 in Mumbai. However, the opposition parties have objected to the duration of the budget session arguing that generally it is of five weeks, but the incumbent government has kept it for only three weeks.
The meeting of the BAC for state Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council was held at the state legislature. Ram Shinde, Chairman of the Maharashtra Legislative Council, Adv. Rahul Narvekar, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and his two deputies Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandrakant Patil, and opposition leaders Anil Parab, Jitendra Awhad, Dr. Nitin Raut among others were present in the meeting, Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Council Neelam Gorhe joined the meeting through video conferencing.
Speaking with this newspaper, senior Congress leader Nitin Raut said that considering the business to be completed in the budget session, the opposition has demanded that the session should be extended by another two weeks. “We are hopeful that the BAC will be held during the budget session to take a decision on extending the session,” he said.
Mr. Raut said that they have demanded three days for discussion on the budget in the meeting. “The BAC has accepted this demand,” the Congress leader added.
Senior NCP (SP) leader Jitendra Awhad said that they have demanded a discussion on the Country’s Constitution in the Assembly like it was held in the Parliament.
