Google Cloud Services Impacted Due To Fire Accident At Data Center In Delhi

New Delhi: A fire at Alphabet-owned Google’s third-party data center in New Delhi forced an emergency shutdown of the facility, disrupting cloud services in multiple metros including Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai.The incident began late Tuesday night
In a post on its status page, the company said users may face intermittent latency spikes and packet loss due to the shutdown.
“Significant traffic has been rerouted from the impacted Delhi facility to offset reduced local serving capacity,” Google said. “As a result, a subset of Hybrid Connectivity and Virtual Private Cloud customers may be affected by routing changes. Affected customers may see intermittent latency spikes as demand exceeds capacity across Indian metros and regional ISPs.”
The fire necessitated an emergency power shutdown of networking equipment, which isolated a local Point of Presence (POP) in Delhi and reduced available network capacity in the metro area, according to an update on the Google Cloud Service Health dashboard.
Google, however, has not disclosed details on property damage, injuries, or when the fire occurred. The company said the next update will be provided on Wednesday.
