Every year on the fourteen night of the waning moon in the Hindu month of Phalguna (Feb-Mar), devotees from across the world observe the auspicious day of Maha Shivaratri.
The occasion marks the union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. For Shaivites and Lord Shiva's followers the day holds high spiritual significance, with people observing fast and keeping special vrat's.

This Year the auspicious Shivaratri is falling on February 26 (Wednesday). The Chaturdashi Tithi Begins at 11:08 am on Wednesday and ends on the next day at 8:54 am.
Devotees generally observe a fast without water (nirjal vrat) on the auspicious day.
Many followers also stay awake the whole night as it is believed that on this occasion Lord Shiva performs 'Tandav'-- the dance of creation, preservation and destruction.
