Hyderabad Metro train faces its first technical snag

The train was parked at the pocket track' to give way to other trains coming from both directions.

Hyderabad: The first technical problem in the month-old Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) surfaced on Sunday morning when a train at Ameerpet station faced a technical issue because of which other trains on the Ameerpet-Mettuguda line were stopped for some time.

According to HMR’s managing director N.V.S. Reddy, “it was due to a technical problem in a train at Ameerpet. It was safely taken to the nearby Prakashnagar station. The train was parked at the ‘pocket track’ to give way to other trains coming from both directions. Hence, train movements were temporarily stopped from Ameerpet and Mettuguda.”

The delay in operations caused a flurry of angry tweets. S. M. Ali wrote, “I am stuck at Begumpet station from 15 min, train is not moving. How can I raise a complaint and to whom? This delay is not acceptable.”

And this from one Kiran Kumar: “We board metro to save time but the train got delayed by 1 hour 20 minutes at Ameerpet towards Nagole.”

Meanwhile, HMR officials checked the tracks as a precautionary measure. The train resumed operations after the fault was set right.

Mr Reddy scotched rumours that someone had jumped onto the tracks. “No such incident of boy jumping etc has happened,” he said.
