Minister Rajini's New Office Attacked in Guntur, Police Arrest 30 Persons
Vijayawada: Telugu Desam and Jana Sena men attacked the newly constructed office of health minister Vidala Rajini at Vidyanagar in Guntur West constituency on Sunday night. Thirty persons have been arrested and produced before a court on Monday, police said.
“Tension prevailed in Guntur during the New Year celebrations. A group of people pelted stones on the minister’s office around midnight. Flexes were torn and mirrors broken. Even after the police arrived on the scene, the attackers refused to leave the place,” police said.
Police said a lathi-charge was done to disperse the crowd and some persons have been detained. “During the investigation, it was concluded that TDP-Jana Sena activists were behind the attack,” police said.
The attack came days after the minister was appointed as the in-charge of Guntur West constituency. She set up an office in Vidyanagar, Guntur, and it was to be inaugurated on Monday morning.
The TDP and Jana Sena workers did a milk ‘abhishekam’ on NTR's statue on Sunday night. After that, they held a rally. During the course of the rally, some among them pelted stones on the minister’s office, police said.
Rajani said the attack was planned in advance. Stern action against the attackers will follow. “Hundreds of TD goons in a drunken state pelted stones on the new office of YSR Congress West constituency and destroyed it. Its glasses were broken and the entire office was littered with stones pelted by TD’s rowdy mob that created havoc for about an hour in the middle of the night, she said.
Rajini alleged that the TD thugs could not bear to see a BC woman contesting from the Guntur West constituency. “Bagsful of big stones were brought in by vehicles and thrown at the party office. If TD comes to power, there will be no protection to people's property.”
She said the destruction on the first day of the New Year signified evil intentions. “We are marching under the leadership of a bold leader like YS Jagan Mohan Reddy,” she claimed and asked the people of Guntur to think about TD's atrocities.
Guntur West MLA Maddali Giridhar said TD goons could not tolerate a BC woman contesting from Guntur West constituency.
