Kerala police to take over Technopark security
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As part of enhancing the security of Technopark, the special security wing of Kerala Police will soon take over the security of the entire Technopark campus. The State Industrial Security Force (SISF), a unit under it providing security to private and public institutions, will be taking over the security of Technopark campus. Talks between police and Technopark senior officials in this regard are in the final stages. "We had engaged SISF for Kochi Infopark, and it was found to be quite efficient. Hence we thought of seeking their service here also," said the chief executive officer of the IT parks Hrishikesh Nair.
SISF Commandant K. V. Santosh said that a plan to deploy 40 security personnel in Technopark was pending government nod. There would both armed and unarmed staff. Once the SISF takes over, the service of the present private agency on Technopark premises would be terminated. However, companies could engage them for in-house security requirements. The authorities feel the SIFS being an agency of the state police would be able to implement the security plan in a more efficient manner.
Already police, including pink police, are carrying out patrolling on Technopark campus. Apart from Infopark, the SISF is also providing security to many key institutions including Reserve Bank of India offices in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi, cash chest of all nationalised banks except SBI and SBT, three new generation banks, Intelligence Bureau office in Thiruvananthapuram, Malabar Cements and the seaplane hangars in Kollam and Bakal. Proposals for providing security at various other institutions like CBI office and Indian Rare Earths are also pending. The SISF would be charging for its service.
