High-voltage tower in field: Farmer gets time till Feb 17
HYDERABAD: Justice K. Madhavi Devi of the Telangana High Court granted time till February 7 to a petitioner on the question of laying high-voltage power lines in her agricultural field. Justice Madhavi Devi was dealing with a writ plea filed by Rapaka Radhika Reddy questioning the action of the Warora Kurnool Transmission Limited for not relocating the tower over her land. While counsel for the petitioner contended that farmers’ rights were being jeopardised, senior counsel for the respondent pointed out that law on the subject had been settled and that the petitioner was entitled only to compensation after laying of high-tension wires. Moreover, 880 km along high-tension power transmission line cannot be changed at the instance of each farmer, senior counsel said.
HC orders against arrest of petitioner in a criminal case
Justice K. Surender of Telangana High Court directed the police not to arrest the petitioner in a criminal case. The judge was dealing with a petition filed by Sarawati Kavula, an agriculturalist and social activist, challenging a FIR lodged against her by the revenue divisional officer, Ibrahimpatnam. T. Counsel for the petitioner contended that the petitioner assisted farmers in Ibrahimpatnam mandal in raising grievances against the acquisition of their fertile land for NIMZ Pharma City. There are several contempt cases against the RDO for removing the names of farmers from Dharani records, in violation of court orders. Because of this, farmers were being denied Rythu Bandhu and crop loans.
Counsel said the the petitioner along with 30 other affected farmers went to the RDO office and asked the authorities to address their grievances. At this, the RDO filed criminal cases against the petitioner on the allegation of obstructing a public servant on duty. The court observed that the complainant was not present in the office at the time of the incident. Taking note of the pendency of cases against the official, directed the police not to arrest the petitioner.
Cat attacks boy: Doctors exempted from presence
Justice K. Surender of the Telangana High Court on Wednesday dispensed with the presence of a group of doctors in a criminal case. The judge was dealing with a petition filed by Dr V. Usha Rani and other doctors, who are aggrieved after a criminal case was registered against them by parents of a baby boy on whom they had operated. A complaint was lodged by one Mamatha accusing that the petitioners were negligent. The boy suffered injuries when a cat attacked him. The petitioners said that the management was responsible for providing adequate care and facilities in the hospital. The court asked the petitioners to take out notice to the respondents and dispensed with their appearance in the trial court.
