Need law to prevent convicted person heading party: Ramadoss
Salem: A new law should be enacted to prevent a convicted person from heading a political party, said PMK leader Ramadoss in a veiled attack on V.K. Sasikala, now serving prison in the disproportionate assets case.
“Suitable amendments should be made in the Representation of People’s Act to bar a convicted person from taking over the leadership role in a political party,” he told journalists here on Tuesday.
Mr Ramadoss also sought transfer of Sasikala to Tihar jail as reports suggest that she enjoys privileges in the Karnataka prison. “A judicial enquiry should also be conducted into the death of late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.”
Urging the centre to roll back the proposed hydro carbon project at Neduvasal, the PMK leader said that the Chief Minister and Governor should first hand meet the local people and hold talks with them. He also threatened to hold massive protests, if the centre does not stop its move to privatize the steel plant in Salem district.
On the prevailing confusion over National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Neet), Ramadoss said that the state government should strive to get the approval of president for the bill passed in the state assembly exempting Tamil Nadu from taking entrance examination for medical courses.
“The Karnataka government is going ahead with the construction of Makedatu dam by sanctioning funds in violation of verdicts by Supreme Court and Cauvery Management Board. In 1970s, Karnataka built Kabini and Hemavathi only with the nod of then Chief Minister Karunanidhi, which has reduced flow of water into Tamil Nadu,” he said.
