45 checkposts set up at AP - Karnataka border

VIJAYAWADA: As many as 45 integrated check posts have been set up by Andhra Pradesh along the Karnataka border to avoid illegal transportation of money, liquor and ganja in the context of the Assembly elections there on May 10.

Chief Secretary K.S. Jawahar Reddy stated this on Monday while taking part in a video conference held by Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar from Delhi with state chief secretaries, DGPs, chief electoral officers and others from Karnataka, AP, Telangana, Maharashtra, Goa, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Jawahar Reddy said the integrated check posts were manned by officials from the police, excise, commercial taxes and revenue departments. They have so far seized 3,008 litres of IMFL and 444 tetra packs, each pack carrying 90 ml, and 2.5 kg of ganja.

State DGP K.V. Rajendranath Reddy informed the CEC that they were keeping a close tab on illegal movement of liquor and cash through the integrated check posts.

The CEC advised the chief secretaries and DGPs to keep close vigil on illegal transport of liquor and money by setting up check posts in the common border areas on the Karnataka side.
