Poultry farms in Mahbubnagar district comply with guidelines, PCB tells NGT
HYDERABAD: In a report submitted to the National Green Tribunal, the pollution control board (PCB) stated that poultry farms in the Mahbubnagar district were complying with the guidelines issued by the Central PCB.
The PCB submitted the report, dated May 24, before the NGT and stated that all three poultry farms in Perkiweedu village of Koilkonda mandal of Mahbubnagar district — Madhusudahn Reddy poultry farm, Janardhan Reddy poultry farm and Narasimha Reddy poultry farm had obtained the consent for operation (CFO) dated April 6, valid till March 31, 2024.
Further, the report said the poultry farms were not causing pollution to the agricultural lands nearby and were not generating any waste from the bird droppings. It further stated that the droppings were cleared once every two days, the dead birds were scientifically disposed of and every other guideline set by the CPCB was being adhered to.
Three residents of Perkiweedu — D. Ramesh, Vaditha Krishna, and Megavath Mennna — had filed a complaint against these poultry farms beforethe NGT in October 2022 over pollution and waste generation charges.
In an earlier report submitted by the PCB to the NGT based on an inspection in October 2022, it was found that the poultry farms were not complying with the CPCB’s guidelines.
The NGT, in its order dated February 8, had directed the poultry farms to comply with the CPCB guidelines within 30 days and instructed the PCB to file a report based on the actions taken by the farms to comply with the guidelines.
The PCB inspected the farms on April 1, after which a report was submitted, stating that the farms were found to have taken corrective measures and were complying with the PCB guidelines.
The PCB further stated that it would periodically monitor the poultry farms as per the NGT's directives.
