BTech colleges flunk in results in Kerala
KOCHI: The second semester BTech results of Kerala Technological University reveal that the last 10 colleges in the list of 152 have less than 15 per cent pass while 62 colleges overall have less than 30 per cent pass. The top performing colleges are Model Engineering College, Kochi, (86.78 per cent), followed by College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram, (86.35), TKM Engineering College, Kollam (82.58), Government Engineering College, Barton Hill (81.19) and Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology, Kottayam (80.2).
According to university sources, the colleges having less than 15 per cent pass are Cochin Institute of Science and Technology, Muvattupuzha, Shahul Hameed Memorial Eng-ineering College, Kollam, Travancore Engineering College, Oyoor, Kollam, Cochin College of Engineering and Technology, Valancherry, Malappuram, Mount Zion College of Engineering, Pathanamthitta, Vedavyasa Institute of Technology, Malap-puram, St Gregorious College of Engineering, Kasargod, Matha College of Technology, North Paravur, Kochi, Archana College of Engineering, Nooranadu, Alappuzha and KMCT College of Engineering, Manassery, Kozhikode.
“The university has published only subject-wise and course-wise results as a student has the option to choose the subjects for registration. It is not necessary to select all the subjects for registration. Hence, course-wise and subject-wise pass percentage is given on the website.
However, in the top 10 colleges, all students registered and appeared for all papers,” said a top official of the university. The other top five colleges from sixth to 10th position are Muthoot Institute of Technology and Science (79.93 per cent), Government College of Engineering Kannur (77.95), Rajagiri School of Engineering and Technology, Kochi (75.91), Toms College of Engineering for Startups, Kottayam (74.51) and Mar Athnasius College of Engineering, Kothamangalam (74.09).
According to the official, out of the 16 papers in two semesters, excluding four lab papers which have one credit each, students can lose three to four papers, to get the required credits of 35 out of 47 since the credits for papers vary from three to four.
“Students usually pass the lab paper. This time the university pass percentage for first semester sustainable engineering paper and second semester design engineering paper was 94 which means most of the students had passed the papers,” said the official.
