Inflated promises land school in deep trouble in Wayanad
Kozhikode: The Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum in Wayanad has directed the KEYPEES International School, Kunnampatta, to pay Rs 50,000 as compensation to P.C. Suresh, father of a student, Aadhi P.S., for its failure to ensure promised amenities. The July 24 verdict also directed the school authorities to pay Rs 10,000 as litigation expenses. He could claim 12 percent interest if the payment were delayed.
Mr Suresh had demanded Rs 1,00,000 under Section 12 of the Consumer Protection Act for denying the publicised facilities and Rs 50,000 as expenses. He said the school authorities visited his home and promised smart classrooms, a digital theatre, accelerated math programme, language lab, interaction with experts, customised computer curriculum, science and maths labs and swimming pool among others. He shifted his child from a reputed school in 2013.
He said he got embarrassed with the low standard of teaching, lack of basic amenities and inferior quality of food served. When he repeatedly complained, they threatened to expel his child. “The move caused us much tension, and the child is very much depressed,” he told DC. The forum found deficiencies in service and unfair trade practice on the part of the school, forcing the complainant spent heavily.
