TTD to hold twin brahmotsavams this year
TIRUPATI: Due to the occurrence of the auspicious Adhika Masam, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) is preparing to hold two Brahmotsavams this year. Adhika Masam, also known as the “extra month” in the Hindu lunar calendar, is a time considered to be highly auspicious for religious ceremonies and festivals. It comes around every 32 months, giving significance to the approaching festivities.
The Brahmotsavams, dedicated to Lord Venkateswara, draw thousands of devotees from across the country and even abroad. The elaborate ceremonies and processions during these festivities enhance the spiritual significance of the temple town, making it a cherished occasion for the devotees.
As twin Brahmotsavams are lined up this year in the successive months of September and October, TTD executive officer (EO) A.V. Dharma Reddy presided over the first review meeting with all TTD departments, along with JEO Sada Bhargavi and V. Veerabrahmam at Annamaiah Bhavan in Tirumala on Monday.
According to the TTD EO, the Salakatla Brahmotsavams will be held from September 18 to 26, followed by the Navaratri Brahmotsavams from October 15 to 23. “The planning and preparations for these grand events have already commenced a month and a half in advance. A subsequent review meeting with the district administration and police department is also scheduled to ensure seamless coordination”, the EO added.
Some of the significant events during the Salakatla Brahmotsavams include Dhwajarohanam on September 18, where Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy will present silk vastrams to Venkateswara Swamy on behalf of the state government. Other key dates include Garuda Seva on September 22, Golden Chariot on 23, Rathotsavam on 25, and the Chakrasnanam and Dhwajavarohanam on 26, marking the conclusion of the annual fete. Similarly, the Navaratri Brahmotsavams will commence on October 15, with notable events such as Garuda Vahanam on 19, Pushpaka Vimanam on 20, and the Golden Chariot on 22.
Dharma Reddy also highlighted the occurrence of both Brahmotsavams and the holy Peratasi month, leading to an anticipated heavy influx of pilgrims. “Peratasi Masam will begin on September 18 and conclude on October 17. The Peratasi Saturdays will fall on September 23, 30, and October 7, 14. In light of the expected surge in devotees, officials have been directed to plan accordingly to ensure hassle-free darshan during these two annual events and Peratasi Saturdays”, he added.
