Commercial LPG Prices Hiked By Over Rs 200
NEW DELHI: State-owned oil marketing companies (OMCs) on Sunday increased the prices of commercial liquefied petroleum gas or LPG cylinders by Rs 209 with immediate effect. However, the cost of the 14 kilograms domestic LPG cylinder has been kept unchanged. The increase in commercial LPG prices came nearly a month after the oil companies slashed the prices of 19-kg commercial LPG gas cylinders by Rs 158. The increased commercial LPG gas cylinder prices will come into effect from Sunday.
LPG is popularly used as a motor fuel, cooking gas, for heating as well as refrigeration purposes and even for certain high-end industrial processes. However, the price of domestic LPG remained unchanged at Rs 903 per 14.2-kg cylinder. In addition, petrol and diesel prices continued to remain unchanged. Generally, the price of both commercial and domestic LPG cylinders undergoes monthly revisions on the first day of each month.
After the increase, OMCs said in a notification that the commercial LPG cylinders will now cost Rs 1,731.50 in Delhi, Rs 1,684 in Mumbai, Rs 1,845 in Lucknow, Rs 1,898 in Chennai, Rs 1,813 in Bengaluru and Rs 1,839 in Kolkata. "The price of aviation turbine fuel, or ATF, was also increased by Rs 5,779.84 per kilolitre. The fuel will now cost Rs Rs 118,199.17 per kilolitre in Delhi. This was the fourth straight hike in the price of ATF, which in turn is a major component in pricing of flight tickets," it said.
Prices of LPG cylinders and all fuels are regulated by oil marketing companies. Even as oil marketing companies regulate fuel costs, it has been seen multiple times in the past that prices have been kept on hold for several months ahead of elections, but hiked immediately after they conclude.
