Mass Housewarming: AP\'s Navaratnalu-Pedalandariki Illu Scheme Aims for World Record

VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s brainchild and flagship welfare programme, the Navaratnalu-Pedalandariki Illu, is all set to launch the state-wide housewarming events on Oct 5 for as many as five lakh houses.

The construction of these dwellings out of a total target of 15 lakh dwelling units in the first phase of the government scheme has been completed.

Chief minister Jagan Reddy is scheduled to initiate the mass housewarming ceremony in the Jagananna colonies on Oct 5. Such a large number of house warming events in one go would set a world record.

Jagan Reddy would visit Samalkot on Oct 5, inaugurate the newly constructed Navaratnalu-Pedalandariki Illu houses in the ETC Layout and later oversee the mass 5 lakh housewarmings in the state.

The chief minister, who would complete his five-year term by the middle of next year, has been giving top priority to the housing scheme that aims at providing houses in the name of women in two phases of 15 lakh each.

The CM would, thereafter, target the completion of the rest of houses of first phase houses and aims to complete the distribution of the second phase houses before the 2024 elections. This, he hopes, would help his party, the YSRC, get massive support from the beneficiaries and the poor across the state.

The chief minister said '15,810 crore would be spent this year on the YSR Congress government’s flagship Pedalandariki Illu mega housing programme. He refuted allegations from the opposition Telugu Desam about the housing scheme. Apart from providing land to 31 lakh families, houses were also being built on these for them by the government, he pointed out.

Infrastructural facilities such as wide roads, underground drainage, underground power cables, drinking water and Internet were being provided, he explained.

Special chief secretary to Housing, Ajay Jain, said that with a target to complete the construction of five lakh houses across the state by the end of August, the state housing department has achieved the target. It completed the construction of 5,00,653 housing units under the Navaratnalu Pedalandariki Illu Scheme as per the instructions of the chief minister, he said.

Officials said that by Aug 28, they completed the construction of 500653 houses across 26 districts.

Lakshmi Sha, managing Director, AP housing corporation, has been organising review meetings with all the district officials and giving instructions to them to achieve the targets. Diwan Mydeen, special secretary to Housing and Shiva Prasad, JMD, Housing Corporation, visited the layouts and oversaw the constructions in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Nellore and Bapatla districts.

Housing minister Jogi Ramesh congratulated all the officials and staff on achieving the target.
