Class X CBSE students prefer to write board examination
HYDERABAD: Even as the Centre is mulling removing optional facility for CBSE Class X so that all students appear for the board exam instead of school-based exam, principals of leading schools in Hyderabad say most of the students in Hyderabad go for the board exam, according to DPS (Nacharam) Principal Sunitha Rao. “Parents of at least 80 per cent students prefer this because they want children to be in serious study mode. Parents say that children will take it easy and get complacent if there is no board exam. In Nacharam branch, more than 90 per cent of the eligible students will be writing the board exam in 2017. Those opting for school exam are mostly children with special needs,” she said.
DAV Schools Regional Director Seetha Kiran said that students from the North, especially New Delhi. opt for school-based exam since they continue their plus two studies in the same CBSE schools. “In Hyderabad, many tenth grade students enroll in corporate colleges (affiliated to state) for intermediate study. Parents feel a board exam stands them in good stead in junior and senior intermediate and help in coping up pressure," she said.
Meanwhile, G. Manohar Rao, parent of a tenth class student said that there are more positives than negatives with students writing board exam in tenth. “I have seen students tend to lose focus and the carefree attitude will spell trouble when they move to a higher grade. If they do not study thoroughly it will be very difficult at plus two level with the higher curriculum,” he said.
