Locals Around Nampally Slam Poor Living Conditions

HYDERABAD: People living in the densely populated localities of Nampally Assembly constituency complain about unpatched roads, abandoned garbage dumps, unprotected transformers and power boxes that have been left unattended by people’s representatives and the authorities.

Stretch of 250-metre road work that connects Nampally government hospital road to the main part of the Old City was initiated over three months back but remains incomplete. Potholes and dug up material lying on the narrow roads are creating havoc in Nampally and its surrounding localities.

Two children and an elderly woman of a family residing in Charkhandil suffered injuries after they lost their balance due to the boulders that were left on the passages of the narrow roads, said Mohammed Raheem, a local.

He said that 12-year-old Shaik Ahmed, his seven-year-old sister Shaik Sana and mother Shaik Afreen, got down from an auto which could progress no further and were walking towards their house in Charkhindil through the passage holding hands to avoid the boulders. They lost balance and fell on the boulder. Afreen suffered a head injury, while Ahmed and Sana suffered bleeding injuries on their knees and elbows, Raheem said.

Apart from that the residents living in Habeebnagar, Nampally Aghapura, Mallapally, Habeebnagar, Mangar basti, Afzalsagar Nampally government hospital till Aghapura bear the brunt as they have been using an alternative route from Sahara dairy farm to connect to the other side of Aghapura.

“We can't park the vehicles before our house due to the dug up portion and piled material in our lane. Who is to be held responsible if our vehicles are stolen,” asked P. Ram Das, a school teacher from Habeebnagar.

The residents have met their representatives several times only to be told that the contractor has been delaying the road laying work.

“The contractor was evasive and blamed the authorities,” Syed Adil Khan said.

The heap of garbage dumped just adjacent to Charkandil circle in Aghapura has been causing health hazards to over 400 families living in Charkandil.

“We have stopped using the roads with garbage dumps, foul smell from uncollected garbage is attracting stray dogs. We have stopped our kids from going out to play during the evenings,” Shaheen Begum, a resident of Charkhandil, said.

People living on the other side of Afzalsagar nala in Mangar Basti face severe problems during rains because of the uncovered nala.

“During rains, our lanes are stagnant. This has been happening for years now. None of the representatives have come to attend our issues. During the recent rains my house was completely damaged. I had to spend 'three lakh for raising boundary walls, said Kishan Singh from Mangar basti.
