Hyderabad: Vexed that their issues were not addressed for years together, Rajendranagar residents are hoping that these would be resolved by the authorities and peoples representatives during the upcoming elections.
Locals list out several serious concerns that they are confronted with, including mosquito menace, non-functional or absence of streetlights, unkempt community parks, unhygienic surroundings and absolutely dangerous roads. They are demanding answers from the leaders as the state heads for its third Assembly elections.
Community parks that were once popular recreation spots have been lying abandoned in Attapur for over four years and they have turned breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
A resident of Sirimallenagar said, “I used to go for a walk in the park right across my house every evening and my children used to play there around four years back. The elders would gather and relax. Now the park looks more like a mini-jungle.”
Another park on the opposite side of the road in Nalanda Nagar is full of foliage while strays lie around the gate that remains locked.
“Roads have been in bad shape at major junctions, leading to traffic jams during peak hours. There have been quite a few accidents on the stretches but our complaints have been falling on deaf ears,” said Bhagyamma, a senior citizen.
Md Anwar said that it was difficult to open windows in the evenings given the terrible mosquito menace. This is being aggravated by the polluted Musi river, he said.
Parameshwar Aggarwal, a shopkeeper from Hyderguda, said, “Streetlights have not been working properly for many years now. There is a temporary arrangement whenever we raise a complaint. In two to three weeks, it will be dark all over again, which is worrisome when we think of elders and children”.
Nikita Aggarwal from Krishna Nagar said that it was impossible to live in the area as there was an open dumping ground right in front of the house, which is a blot on the posh locality. People dumping liquor bottles at odd hours make it difficult for women to step out of their houses, she said.
K. Shruthi, a boutique owner, said that street dog menace was bothersome as she feared for her kids, who might be attacked by them.
Vijay Kumar said that drainage has been a major problem in Upperpally for over five years now.
The locals urged the leaders to become more sensitive and assure to make their lives better when they come for votes.
