Operation Smile: 26 child labourers rescued in Sircilla

Warangal: With the coordination extended by all the departments, Operation Smile-9 was conducted successfully, along with the rescue of 26 child labourers, said district superintendent of police Akhil Mahajan here in Rajanna Sircilla district on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the SP said, “The Central government conducts programmes across the country twice a year called ‘Operation Smile’ and ‘Operation Muskan’ to combat the country’s child labour system.”

As part of the Operation Smile-9 programme, which was conducted from January 1 to 31, the district police officials, in coordination with the officials of the task force, the child welfare committee, labour, education, and child protection departments, formed special teams along with the representatives of some voluntary organisations and conducted raids across the district.

During the above period, 26 child labourers, including 17 boys and 9 girls, were identified, handed over to their parents, counselled, and cases were filed against those who had employed the minor children for work.

It is the responsibility of every citizen to protect the rights of the children and must strive hard to prevent the child labour in the country. People must dial 100 or notify the police if they see any street children so that they can be rescued and returned to their parents, he appealed.
