Prevent social boycott of family: HC

Hyderabad: Justice B Vijaysen Reddy of the Telangana High Court directed the Nizamabad district collector and commissionerate to take steps to prevent the social boycott of a family. The judge was dealing with a writ plea filed by Mamidikind Mahipal who questioned the collector and commissionerate of Nizamabad for not taking action on a complaint filed by them against A. Ravinder Reddy and two others for socially boycotting him and his family. The petitioner also approached the Human Rights Commission. The assistant government pleader sought time for instructions. Meanwhile, the judge directed that if the family was socially boycotted, the unofficial respondents, caste persons and villagers would be prosecuted.

Bail for accused in misappropriation case

Justice C. Sumalatha of the Telangana High Court granted bail to an accused in a matter regarding misappropriation of money. The judge was dealing with a petition filed by Avvari Kishore alias Avvari Papaiah Shastry. The petitioner said he was an employee of Vysya Bank, Warangal, and a trial was pending in the lower court against him alleging misappropriation of money in 1993.

He had secured bail and moved to the USA and had been residing there since. In 2022, after hearing the about the death of his mother, he came back to India where he was apprehended for his changed name and got to know about pending non-bailable warrants issued against him.

Senior counsel T. Niranjan Reddy appearing for the petitioner told the court of the circumstances in which the petitioner’s name had to be changed from Kishore to Papayya Sastry. He said counsel engaged previously had expired and that the petitioner had no knowledge of the pending warrants.

The judge directed the petitioner to be diligent and follow the process of law, and instructed him to surrender his passport, file an affidavit disclosing residential address and pay Rs 1 lakh towards bail bond and Rs 5 lakh towards Army Welfare Fund.
