Britsh docs team up with NIMS, Niloufer, perform heart surgery on month old baby
Hyderabad: A team of six cardiac surgeons and doctors from Britain have teamed up with doctors at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (Nims) and the Niloufer Children’s Hospital, to perform surgeries on children suffering from congenital heart conditions.
In the past four days, the teams have performed eight surgeries and are expected to complete a few more in the next few days.
Among those who underwent a complicated cardiac surgery is a month-old-baby girl from Midgil in Mahbubnagar district who was admitted a month ago with heart valve and arterial related problems. In a surgery that lasted around six hours, a 15-member medical team including the team from Britain, corrected the problem, said the health department.
Health minister T. Harish Rao complimented the doctors and medical staff.
The department said the team from Britain, led by Dr Venkata Ramana Dannapuneni, is in the city on Harish Rao’s invitation and has been performing the surgeries on children for free. Such surgeries would cost anywhere upwards of Rs 5 lakh each, and the Telangana government was making these available to the poor free of cost.
