Late President Kalam's brother files petition against Ponraj
MADURAI: A.P.J. Mohamed Muthu Meera Maraikayar, brother of late President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, has filed a petition before the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court seeking to grant interim injunction to restrain Ponraj from using the name ‘Abdul Kalam Vision India Party’ and two others who had formed the party.
Ponraj served as secretary to the late President, had formed the party using the name of Kalam. Though Maraikayar challenged this before a single judge of the Madras HC, the Election Commission informed the court it has no objection in using the Kalam’s name.
The commission also said national leaders cannot be said to be the right or property of any particular party or organisation. And those who believe in the philosophy and ideology of leaders cannot be prevented by using names.
