Hussainsagar cleanup job to cost Rs. 41 lakhs

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) said it will cost Rs. 41 lakh to remove Ganesh idols and floating material from the Hussainsagar.

The work includes engaging workers to remove the remains of idols from the lake and two baby ponds adjacent to Hussainsagar as well as flowers, garlands and other puja material along the shoreline of NTR Marg and, where required, deploy JCBs, cranes and tippers, trucks, etc.

Every year, the cleanup is completed 10 days after the immersion day The removed materials are stacked up at designated locations and will be carted away to the GHMC transfer station at Lower Tank Bund.

With the Khairatabad Ganesh idol being made of clay, as also more non-PoP idols being installed, there is an expectation that the lake will see less pollution as clay dissolves upon contact with water in the lake.
